Carving a plan is a placemaking cultural centre, offering an alternative way to heighten the interaction between artist, public and boat-dwelling communities, as means to stitch the socio-economic rip, propagated by gentrification and carving through Fish Island, Hackney Wick, London. Recognising the possible displacement of artist communities in the near future, the proposal offers creative opportunity to those unaware and unable to access multidisciplinary facilities; sparking conversations grounded within the arts, with the intention to further embed the creative communities in the social and economic fabric of the area and encouraging the exchange of knowledge between distanced communities. In doing so, the project activates existing funds from regional governing bodies, to ensure genuine possibility for implementation. Sitting on the waterfront of the canal, the project implements a new lease of life by activating un-used sites with historic significance, carving through the landscape and layering the terrain with acupuntured intervention.
